In determinations about camps and my own future I have decided to step sideways from the EO position sometime around the end of April this year. Over the past 2 and a half years we have worked really hard to get camps in SA back in a strong position for the future. This work has been very demanding – and we have done it with great determination and professionalism. The leadership of the Christian Brothers and camps nationally have all celebrated the success of ERCSA over this time. I am looking forward to maintaining my involvement to ensure our hard work does not diminish and to still be part of this community that I have grown to love dearly.
To that end I will be involved extensively with the Board to assist with funding for camps into the future and will have a presence in the office regularly. This is where I best see my skills utilised to ensure we are sustainable in the long term. I will also be maintaining involvement as a volunteer Camp Manager and assisting in training volunteers for Positions of Responsibility.
So, you will see an advertisement on seek.com and in other media from this Friday to give us plenty of time to find the right person to take on this really important role.
There is a lot happening for ERCSA at the Board level, new staff positions, and new ideas for camps and activities for 2017. If you are interested in knowing more then we have the regular Volunteer Meeting on Friday at 9.30 at the office or the Leaders Weekend on the 17th – 19th February where more regarding the future of camps will be discussed.
The good seed is growing and I see real opportunities emerging for the organisation this year.
Our two Summer Camps are done and dusted! Here's a video of some of the amazing times we had on our 'Tropical Summer' Camp, and our 'Around the World' Camp.
ERCSA is an organisation that relies on a community of wonderfully passionate volunteers. Their work makes Edmund Rice Camps possible and without them, we simply could not operate. One of those amazing volunteers is Lucy. At our recent Quiz Night we were lucky enough to recognise Lucy as our Volunteer of the Year 2016!
As part of our ongoing relationship with the Department of Environment, Water and Resources, Edmund Rice Camps SA was part of a press conference with Minister Ian Hunter. Check us out on 9News here!
Edmund Rice Camps SA has a strong culture of family among our volunteers and participants. A growing group to the ERCSA community is the family unit themselves. Our 2016 Family Camp saw five families join us for a weekend filled with journeys to Challenge Hill and Cleland Wildlife Park as well as spoiling the carers with a pre-dinner of soft-drinks, cheese and lasting memories in our Family Camp Photobooth! And of course, face-painting was a MUST DO activity for all participants involved.
Star Wars camp featured a adventurous walk through the depths of Endor where we experienced a range of challenges through flour, jelly and thick mud. When we got on board the Millennium Falcon, it took us to the starry night sky where we were confronted by Darth Maul and his mysterious foolery. This camp ended with the construction of a base on the planet Hoth and with plenty of laughter, energy and new friendships. What an out-of-this-world success!

On our July Star Wars Camp, we were lucky enough to get visited by staff from the Commonwealth Bank with a cheque for $5,000 as part of their Staff Community Fund! Amazing!
Our July Younger Kids Camp was a magical experience for all involved! The Harry Potter theme was embraced by everyone and provided for some unforgettable experiences. There were games of quidditch and potions classes, as well as spell training which resulted in all the kids running around the oval after dinner one night with sparklers lit up as wands.
