Volunteer with ERCSA

Without our incredible group of volunteers we simply could not do what we do!

Our primary group of volunteers are young adult volunteer camp leaders who we engage to to lead the fun-filled experiences for children and families on our camps. As an organisation we invest in our volunteers through training and capacity building them to best serve the needs of our participants on an ERCSA program.

We also rely on a team of support volunteers to cook, drive buses, and help run the logistics of a camp.

Outside of a camp program we also have volunteers work behind the scenes to help with fundraising, admin, and resource management.

Why we volunteer...

"I love that ERCSA supports kids to believe in themselves and see their full potential, and to change their perspective on life by reinforcing fun and positive experiences. I love the diverse range of people that are ERCSA volunteers. I love that ERCSA creates an environment where volunteers are able to give our unique skills and experiences to the kids on camp and generate amazing and life-changing experiences for them (and ourselves!)"

Volunteer as a camp leader

As a camp leader your role is to be a mentor, support, and friend to the young people who come on our camps.

As a first time Volunteer, you are required to :

  • be 16-25 years old,

  • have or be prepared to obtain a Working with Children Check,

  • attend a Pre-Camp Training Day,

  • and be available for the entirety of a camp program (5 days, 4 nights).

Below you can find more information on the induction process of volunteering with us. For the latest information or to find out more send us an email at ercsa@edmundrice.org and we'll get back to you as soon as we can.

Application Form

The first step to becoming an ERCSA Volunteer is submitting a Volunteer Application. You can do this via the form below.

Submit an application here

Working with

Children Check

Before you attend a program you will be required to either provide or obtain a Working with Children Check (WWCC). This clearance has no cost for volunteers. You can apply for your own here.

For the role description write 'respite/holiday camp volunteer with Edmund Rice Camps South Australia'.

Register for

a Camp

After you've sent in a volunteer application and submitted your working with children check, you'll be able to put your name down for a camp. This will happen 2-3 months before a program and registrations will close 6 weeks before a camp.

Check the top of this page for the latest on when our next programs are. Some programs will require volunteers to be over 18.

Before each block of programs, we will hold an induction session, usually on a Sunday, to get you prepared for camp! This session will include training to provide you with the skills to respond to child abuse and neglect concerns, working with challenging behaviours, as well as more information about the program you will be attending.

“I come back, because we leaders get to show the kids that for a whole week, they become someone else’s whole world. My whole world is made infinitely better because of it, but more importantly, the kids are shown how much they are loved.”

in a support role

Be the backbone of a camp in the kitchen, support the camp program, or drive a bus for a day.

Become a camp cook

  • Working With Children Check

One of the cornerstones of our camps is the kitchen. Most of our camps are self-catered. This allows us to keep camp costs down, but more importantly, it allows us to recreate a warm, welcoming kitchen that helps replicate the feeling of home the family kitchen brings. On camp we prioritise quality, nutritious, and home cooked meals and we always need volunteers to help make that happen.

Volunteering as a camp cook is quite flexible as we're happy to have you for three hours, one day, a few hours each day, or for a whole week! We always have a team of people in the kitchen, with at least one person as the Kitchen Manager to ensure everything is food safe.

Food Safe Handling certificates are desired, but not required. Email us at ercsa@edmundrice.org to express your interest and find out more!

Become a support volunteer

  • Working With Children Check

There's a lot of logistics required in managing a week-long camp of 55+ people. We always need people to help us:

  • Lifeguard (Bronze Medallion required)

  • Do laundry

  • Set up and clean up camp activities

  • and so much more

Email us at ercsa@edmundrice.org to express your interest and find out more!

Be a bus driver

  • Working With Children Check

  • LR Class Licsence

We always need bus drivers to get us to and from campsites, or to take us on off-site excursions. Email us at ercsa@edmundrice.org to express your interest and find out more!
