Last month we had another successful Family Camp! Here's what one of the families who attended had to say:
"I can't remember the last time I felt so relaxed and reassured that my kids where in safe hands. Yes, they do go to camps with Edmund Rice, and I have the opportunity to have a break, but it is always on my mind, the kids and if they are safe. This gave me the opportunity to be as close as possible but able to be freed of the responsibility and it gave me an optimum level of relax and peace that I cannot get when they go alone. I really hope that you are able to run any more camps like this, it's perfect for parents who are nervous about leaving their children in others care, particularly immigrants and those who have experienced trauma and post-traumatic stress, such as myself. I hope that we may qualify to attend again, we get very little fun holidays, money is a big problem, and I haven't got family support so even if I could afford a holiday, it would be difficult for me to manage, enjoy, without support. I am so grateful, every single person who facilitated the camp was beyond delightful, how is it possible that so many young people could be so extraordinary in one space, designed to serve my family? I feel so blessed xxx"
Our volunteers also had an amazing experience.
"Love, trust and care is what it means to be family. Each participant and leader felt safe and supported to be the their true self; which made us feel as if we were part of one big Edmund Rice family. The guardians were given the opportunity to finally step back and focus on themselves for the one weekend, while they knew their children were in safe hands. Being able to bond with each other, and finding out they share common struggles and triumphs was a truly unique experience that they’ll probably never forget. Each individual on camp should be proud of the person they are and the impact they’ve had on each other’s lives."
"Wow! What an experience. Family Camps have a unique tendency to capture the both the hearts and minds of everyone involved, and this one was no exception. The superb administration provided by the PC’s and CC’s on this most recent camp created the ideal setting for personal growth and enjoyment. Loved it!"
Thank you to everyone who helped make the weekend so special!
The Edmund Rice Camps (SA) Board is excited to announce the appointment of our new Executive Officer - Jessica Alikaris!
Following a thorough interview process, the panel were unanimous in their recommendation of Jess for the role.
On a personal level, I have been working quite closely with Jess over the past couple of years. During this time, I have seen her grow and evolve into an outstanding leader. In addition to her exceptional organisational skills, professionalism and attention to detail, Jess is a person of integrity who values relationships deeply and always puts others before herself. Jess has also been involved in numerous formation opportunities and has a strong sense of the Edmund Rice charism which is at the very heart of our mission.
I hope you will all agree, these are all attributes that bode well for the future.
So, please join me in congratulating Jess. We are blessed to have her leading Edmund Rice Camps (SA) into the next exciting phase of our future.
Exciting news! We're having a BBQ fundraiser at Bunnings Warehouse Windsor Gardens on Sunday October 7. Come visit us from 9AM until 4:30PM and show your support by grabbing a snag for camps!
Please share this widely with your networks!
Founded in 1991 as an initiative of the Christian Brothers, Edmund Rice Camps (SA) Inc. (ERCSA) is a non-profit community-based organisation that serves the needs of children aged 7-16 years and their families. The organisation provides camps and other recreational activities for children and families who face adversity, including children considered ‘at risk’ or requiring some form of respite.
ERCSA also supports and encourages the growth and development of young adult volunteers by empowering them to assist those in need, and providing them with the opportunity to learn new skills and grow in confidence as leaders in the community.
ERCSA is seeking to engage for a short term contract, a dynamic, self-driven individual with a passion for justice and an ability to provide critical administration support for the organisation.
The Administration Assistant will primarily involve supporting the administrative needs of the Executive Officer and the day-to-day administration of the organisation for the remainder of 2018. This is a casual position for 15 hours per week, spread over 3 days each week for 12 weeks. This role will not be extended beyond this time.
The successful applicant will have recent experience in providing administration support in a busy office environment. They will have extensive knowledge of the Microsoft Suite and have evidence of the use of databases and formalised filing systems.
Applications Close Wednesday 26th September, 2018.
For further information about the application process please contact:
ERCSA is now part of Drakes Supermarkets Community Dollars Program. Simply swipe a tag every time you shops at Drakes Supermarkets and for every $2 spent by you, one cent will be donated by Drakes.
This doesn't sound like much but for a family shop each week this adds up to over $70 a year for ERCSA! At no cost to you! With your help, we can work towards fully funding the food for our camps through this program.

A few weeks ago we had our July Older Kids Camp, which was Harry Potter Themed! After a magical week with us, one of our participants wrote the following letter to the organisation:
“To all the leaders and staff, I really enjoyed this camp and I appreciate all the hard work you all put into this. This camp, this place feels like a home and you all have made me feel like a big part of this camp and you have made me feel like a big part of a family. To all the new members and staff I would like to say a big thank you, you have all made me feel welcome. It has been great getting to know all of you and getting to have fun. A special thank you to the Hufflepuffs for making them the best team and making this Harry Potter camp magical and a special camp for me. I would like to say a big thank you to the kitchen staff for all your hard work, the food was amazing and for all the effort put in to the decorations of the food. I really enjoyed playing games, singing songs, and just having a great time. I just loved it and I am going to miss all of you and I hope to see all of you in a few years when I become a leader. I will miss you all hope to see you in the future."
A massive thank you to everyone who helped make this week so special for all involved!
I am writing to advise you that Anneke Pike has made the difficult decision not to extend her contract as Executive Office of Edmund Rice Camps SA, and as such has this week concluded her formal role with ERCSA.
Anneke has a long and valued history with Camps throughout the network and I have greatly valued the insight and strategic acumen she has brought to this role. Please join me in thanking Anneke for her service and wishing her well in her future endeavours. We hope she will remain a familiar face to us all.
I am pleased to inform you that while we undertake the recruitment process for our Executive Office role Andree (Onny) Brown will fulfil this position in a modified and interim capacity. As many of you know Onny has previously led ERCSA as the Executive Officer between 2014 and 2017. Since that time she has continued to work closely with the Board and staff in leading our strategic sustainability and partnership work. Onny will continue this function, in addition to her work leading camps in the coming months. At this stage we anticipate Onny will be focussed on camp operations on Mondays and Thursdays from the Rostrevor office. Onny's willingness to return to Camps in this capacity is a real testament to the impactful work we do and the Edmund Rice tradition we are proud to continue.
To ensure our volunteers are fully supported throughout this transition period Adrian Szabo will be working an additional day in the office, in addition to Jess who will continue her two days per week overseeing programs and administration function. There may be some changes in office days for the team who will be sure to keep you abreast of any variations.
Over the coming weeks the Board will work to establish appropriate staffing positions in the ERCSA office. In the meantime we continue to look forward to our July camp returning the value of an Edmund Rice Camp to all that are involved, especially our volunteers. The focus of this camp will be to renew the strength and commitment of ERCSA to all of it’s stakeholders.
